Canada and Migration

Canadian immigration and refugee policy touches on multiple public policy areas, from interprovincial relations to integration, from health care to security policy. It also transcends domestic politics making it an issue of internationalized public policy. This course explores the long history and challenging contemporary context of Canadian immigration and refugee policy drawing on the key critical / analytical approaches to Canadian public policy making. Topics covered might include: labour management, temporary immigration, refugee policy, detention, integration, border management, interdiction, multiculturalism and others. This is a PO400 lecture and will not count towards Honours PO400 seminar requirements. Prerequisites: Registration status: Year 4. Exclusions: PO498V. Registration Notes: Counts towards Public Policy Specialization and Option requirements.
